The Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo (HMGD) is regarded as one of the most gifted chamber ensembles on the music scene today. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch calls their playing " ...exciting, original and accurate [with] terrific verve and flair ."

Since its inception in the mid-1990's, the duo has performed for such renowned and diverse events as the 1999 International Guitar Foundation of America Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, and repeatedly for the International Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Festival in Nashville, Tennessee, always to great critical and audience acclaim.

John McClellan and Kirk Hanser have become known for their choice of entertaining programs, as well as for their technical and musical prowess. Their efforts with numerous contemporary composers will be exhibited this season through new works by Los Angeles based guitarist/composer Andrew York and by Brazilian Paulo Bellinati, the Premio-Sharpe winning guitarist/composer.

The latest CD release by the Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo is " Jongo! Music of South America for Two Guitars ". Noted Latin American music authority Richard "Rico" Stover wrote: " Here's a disc by two gringos...who play Latin American music passionately with convincing rhythmic dynamism and an excellent sense of ensemble. The Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo is ensemble-in-residence at Webster University . The artists are heard frequently on radio and television performing and speaking on such topics as musical interpretation, children's education and the history of the guitar. The HMGD will perform in many venues this year including the Montgomery Guitar Series in Montgomery, Alabama, the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Festival in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Sheldon Concert Hall's 2000-2001 Classical Music Series in St. Louis, Missouri.
